Here are some of the next phases for this public art project and courtyard renovation.

Viking Sword Sculpture

On the crossbar it reads, "Beyond these gates, Valhalla awaits." The sword symbolizes our student's valiant fight against daily adversities they may face in their journeys through high school. The design for this 3D sword was derived from student work shown in the Winter Art Exhibit.

Proposed Horseshoe Space

This proposed stage and amphitheater will serve as a multifunctional space, but the main purpose is to give students a comfortable place, free of mud and dirt, to sit and eat their lunch instead of standing or sitting on the dirty ground.

Proposed Multifunctional Space

We want to put a seat high raised concrete stage in the center of the space and create a three row high concrete mini amphitheater for a multifunctional space.

Valkyrie symbolizes student empowerment and the emphasis on decision making through out their high school years

This ship symbolizes a communities efforts as a vessel to help students through their high school journey.

Valhalla public art: as a work in progress

The Valley High School Visual Art Department, in conjunction with the

City of Las Vegas Arts Commission, Downtown Achieves, and local artist

Mark Brandvik, worked together to install the first public art work in the school's courtyard next to the cafeteria.

The design for this instillation/space was inspired by student work which was based on individual understandings of the term "Valhalla." The student work was featured in Valley's Third Annual Winter Art Exhibit on February 19th. We are now in the planning process for this space. The first two murals were finished at the end of May in 2015.
